Master ‘s Years 1 & 2 Management and Sustainable Transition IDIL (MaST)
The Master’s degree MaST is part of the IDIL graduate program (Inter-Disciplinary & In-Lab graduate program). This program aims to familiarize students with the world of research within the laboratories affiliated with the University of Montpellier. It also promotes interdisciplinarity around three major thematic pillars: Feed, Care and Protect.
The Master’s degree in Management and Sustainable Transition IDIL (MaST) aims to train management students, through research, to address the complexity of managerial issues related to sustainable development. It prepares students for doctoral studies and/or professional careers in the private sector or public organizations.
Working with the master’s program faculty, each student develops a personalized, research-oriented study plan that combines specialized courses, introductory courses in related disciplines, methodology courses, the completion of individual and interdisciplinary team projects and internships in research laboratories.

Who is this for?
The master MaST is ideal for those who wish to gain expertise in management through research. This program enables students to acquire essential skills in management, research, finance, accounting, human resources, sustainable development and entrepreneurship.
Application requirements
The Master 1 & 2 Management and Sustainable Transition IDIL (MaST) is one of the master’s degrees in the field of Management and Strategy (mention Management). Students can join this program in the first or second year.
The Master 1 is open to domestic and international students who hold a bachelor’s degree in management or an equivalent qualification, validated by the completion of 180 ECTS credits.
The Master 2 is open to:
- students who have completed the M1 Management and Sustainable Transition from Montpellier Management (without an application or interview)
- domestic and international students who hold a first-year Master’s degree in management or equivalent training, validated by the completion of 240 ECTS credits.
For the Master 1 and Master 2, students must:
- have an excellent academic record and strong practical and theoretical skills in their discipline
- be able to monitor major contemporary management issues and apply the concepts and tools necessary for management
- understand the principles governing how an organization operates
- be able to contribute to the development and formulation of a strategy
- be able to engage in rigorous debate and argumentation
- work independently and collaboratively on a project
- identify, select, analyze, and synthesize knowledge with a critical mindset
- demonstrate, through their experiences, an interest in sustainable development issues, particularly regarding environmental, food and health matters
Other admission requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in one of the IDIL fields
- English: minimum B2 level
- Resume and cover letter
- Two letters of recommendation from a researcher and/or professor
- Estimated ranking of the student within their class & explanatory transcript
Foreign students who are not members of the European Union and do not have a French degree must first submit an application to CAMPUS France. Applications will only be reviewed once this formality has been completed.

Duration and rythm
The master’s program lasts two years, from M1 to M2. Students can enter the master’s program in the first or second year.

The following criteria will be evaluated: academic performance, the relevance of the applicant’s prior education to the master’s program, the alignment of the applicant’s research proposal with the program and the suitability of the applicant’s profile for the program. For applicants from non-French-speaking countries, proficiency in French will also be evaluated (a minimum C1 level is required).
Tuition fees
For students who do not receive scholarships, the registration fees are as follows:
- Master’s degree: €254 for the 2025/2026 academic year (this fee includes diploma fees, tuition fees, and university library membership).
For students receiving scholarships who provide proof of conditional notification at the time of registration, no registration fees will be charged. The CROUS will pay the registration fees owed to the institution through the scholarships allocated to the student.
In addition, all students enrolled in initial training at a higher education institution must pay the Student and Campus Contribution (CVEC) before registering. This can be done online at cvec.etudiant.gouv.fr

Student assessment is based on a system of partials and continuous assessment, combining individual and group projects, thus guaranteeing the progressive acquisition of the skills necessary to obtain a state diploma.
