To enroll in a work-study program, there are two types of employment contracts governed by the French Labor Code.
The Apprenticeship Contract is a work-study employment contract that allows the apprentice to alternate between training at Montpellier Management and practical work within a company, aiming to obtain a state-recognized professional qualification.
For whom?
- Individuals aged 16 to 29 years old.
- Those over 30 under specific conditions: persons with disabilities, termination of a previous apprenticeship contract, continuing studies through apprenticeship, project for business creation or takeover, and high-level athletes.
What types of companies can offer it?
Any company subject to the apprenticeship tax, including public companies, local authorities, non-profit associations (Law 1901), temporary employment agencies, Public Industrial and Commercial Establishments (EPIC), liberal professions, and employer groups.
What type of employment contract?
- Fixed-term contract (CDD) with a duration at least equal to the length of the training program:
Prépa-DCG 2 / Prépa-DSCG 1 / Master 1 = 2 years
Prépa-DCG 3 / Prpa-DSCG 2 / Professional License / Master 2 = 1 year - Permanent contract (CDI)
What is the status?
Full employee status, holder of a “student trades card,” apprentice.
Duration of training?
At least 402 hours.
Support and supervision?
- In the company, the student is supervised by a mentor who either holds the diploma or an equivalent level and has at least 2 years of professional experience related to the diploma, OR has 3 years of relevant professional experience.
- In training, the student is supervised by an academic tutor appointed at the start of the academic year by the program’s educational coordinator.
The Professionalization Contract is a work-study employment contract that enables the trainee to acquire a professional qualification or to complement their initial training with an additional state-recognized qualification, with the goal of accessing a specific position within the company.
For whom?
- Individuals aged 16 to 25
- Job-seekers aged 26 and over
- Recipients of minimum social benefits such as RSA (Revenu de Solidarité Active), ASS (Specific Solidarity Allowance), or AAH (Disabled Adults Allowance)
- Individuals who have previously held an Integration Contract (Contrat Unique d’Insertion)
What types of companies can offer it?
Any company subject to professional training contributions, including temporary employment agencies, Employer Groups for Integration and Qualification, Public Industrial and Commercial Establishments (EPIC), and private individual employers.
What type of employment contract?
- Fixed-term contract (CDD) from 6 to 12 months (can be extended up to 24 months), renewable once
- Permanent contract (CDI)
The contract must begin before the start of the training program.
What is the status?
Full employee status, with a “student in vocational training” card; considered a continuing education trainee
Duration of training?
Between 15% and 25% of the total duration of the contract is dedicated to training and assessments, included within working hours.
This training period must be at least 150 hours and no more than 455 hours, unless extended beyond 25% by a sectoral agreement.
Support and supervision?
In the company, the student is supervised by a tutor, who can be either the employer or another company employee.
