Practical Information

It’s a digital platform for teaching that includes:

  • A space for courses, discussions, and exchanges between students, teachers, and administrative staff
  • Informations related to the program (exams, internships, etc.)
  • Entry to the university library and forums

A virtual classroom is a group learning environment where students can interact, discuss, and support each other as if in person. Each subject is led by a dedicated instructor, and you can ask questions via subject-specific forums.

From L1 to M1: You must travel to Montpellier or an approved AUF center, twice a year, each for one week (in January and May) for exams. Re-take exam take place in june for one week.

M2: Continuous assessment replaces most exams; no mandatory travel for session 1, but those needing session 2 re-take exams must attend in person in Montpellier in June.

M2: An oral defense of your master’s thesis is mandatory, which can take place in Montpellier or via videoconference, depending on arrangements with your thesis supervisor.

All semester courses are available on the online platform at the start of each semester (september for semester 1 and january for semester 2).
Courses are asynchronous, allowing you to learn at your own pace.
Assignments are due on fixed dates.
Subject-specific forums enable communication with instructors and peers.
Some instructors also offer live video meetings.

Depending on the subject, materials may include video lectures, written documents, interactive modules, serious games, and more.

Yes, as long as you have a reliable internet connection and can travel twice a year for exams (unless if you are studying in M2, when only re-take exams require presence).

These are European credits that support credit transfer across universities. 180 ECTS are needed to earn a Licence (Bachelor’s degree) and 120 additional ECTS are required for a Master’s degree.

The platform can be accessed on PCs, Macs, tablets, and smartphones.

Usually yes, but this is at the instructor’s discretion. For copyright reasons, not all instructors allow course materials to be downloadable.
However, most course files can be downloaded via the platform.

Courses follow the academic year with no mid-year enrolment: typically starting late september to early october.

Via CNED, you can re-register only for the subjects not passed to access forums and activities, or choose a visit-only mode (course access without activities).
For AUF, contact the e‑learning office at moma-elearning@umontpellier.fr.
University registration remains mandatory.

Prerequisites:

  • L3: You need a Bac+2
  • M1: You need a Bac+3
  • M2: You need a Bac+4

If you don’t meet these, you can apply for Recognition of Prior Learning (VAPP/VAE) through the Continuing Education Office.

The VAPP exempts you from formal prerequisites (such as a specific degree). The VAE (Validation of Acquired Experience) allows you to validate all or part of the degree based on your professional experience.

After obtaining L3, apply via “Mon Master” to enter M1. Completing M1 allows automatic progression to M2.

Scholarship students continue to receive aid, and enrollment fees are covered for them. Payment plans are available via CNED, and some external organizations may contribute.

AUF‑registered students can apply for a study grant. Details are on the AUF website.

Year 1 to M1: students must attend two one-week exam sessions per year in Montpellier or at an AUF center.

The exam schedule and dates are posted in November on the platform.

You can choose to:

  • Skip session 1 exams and take all exams in session 2 (semester 1 and 2). Please note that it can affect your success rate.
  • Take some exams in session 1 and the remainder in session 2.

No. Once a course unit (UE) is validated it remains valid. You only retake what was not passed.

Same thing for a semester: if a semester is validated (average of 10 or above), it remains valid, even if a UE is not validated.

Students often use platform forums to organize ride shares or hotel room shares in Montpellier, a practical way to reduce costs.

Internship / Continuing Education

Yes. Contact the Continuing Education Office via sfc@umontpellier.fr for a funding quote.
Visit the “Distance Learning at Montpellier Management” page for tuition information.

Internships are mandatory from L2 to M2 and cannot start before december 1st.

Duration: Minimum 308 hours (2 months), maximum 924 hours (6 months).

  • L1-M1: at least 308 hours
  • M2: at least 616 hours

Beyond 308 hours (or 616 for M2), the internship must be paid the intern. Internships must end by august 31st.

Calculation:

  • 1 day = 7 hours, 1 month = 22 days = 154 hours
  • 2 months = 44 days x 7 hours = 308 hours

Internship time is based on actual hours worked, not calendar dates.

Submitting an internship report (for Bachelor’s degrees) or a thesis/mémoire (for M1 and M2) is mandatory.

This submission cannot take place before the student has completed the minimum required internship duration by the submission deadline (308 hours from L2 to M1, and 616 hours for M2).

Example: If the submission date is May 24th, the student must have completed at least 308 hours by that date for the report or thesis/mémoire to be considered in the first session. If the required hours have not been completed by May 24th, the report or thesis will be assessed in the second session.

The internship may continue beyond the exam board deliberations. For M2, the thesis/mémoire defense is mandatory and can be conducted either via videoconference or in person in Montpellier.

No. The maximum duration is 6 months (924 hours).

Yes, but all hours must be with the same company. You cannot split between different employers.
