Frequently Asked Questions: E-Learning

Practical Information

It is a digital environment that forms the teaching platform:

  • A space for classes, discussions, and exchanges between students, teachers, and administrative staff.
  • Transmission of information relating to the progress of the training (exams, internships, etc.)
  • Access point to the university library and forums.

A virtual classroom consists of a variable number of students who can discuss and help each other as if they were in a physical classroom. Each subject is assigned to a dedicated teacher who can be asked questions via a forum dedicated to each “subject.”

You will have to travel to Montpellier or an AUF center at least twice a year to take exams (from L1 to M1). Duration: one week in January and one week in May. The second session of make-up exams takes place in June over a period of one week.

In M2, evaluation of knowledge is assessed on a continuous basis, so there is no need to travel for the first session exams. The second session exams will take place in person in Montpellier in June.

There will also be a mandatory thesis defense in M2. Defense format: either in person in Montpellier or by videoconference. The defense format will be discussed with the thesis supervisor assigned to you.

All semester courses are available on the online platform at the start of each semester (september for semester 1 and january for semester 2).
Courses are asynchronous, allowing you to learn at your own pace.
Assignments are due on fixed dates.
Subject-specific forums enable communication with instructors and peers.
Some instructors also offer live video meetings.

Depending on the subject, materials may include video lectures, written documents, interactive modules, serious games, and more.

Yes, as long as you have a reliable internet connection and can travel twice a year for exams (unless if you are studying in M2, when only re-take exams require presence).

These are European credits that facilitate transfers between European universities. Students must earn 180 ECTS credits to obtain a bachelor’s degree and an additional 120 ECTS credits to obtain a master’s degree.

The platform can be accessed on PCs, Macs, tablets, and smartphones.

Most of the time, yes, but the method of publication is left to the discretion of the teacher, who may refuse to make them available in printable format for copyright reasons.

The courses can be downloaded from the teaching platform.

Courses run for one academic year. There is no enrollment during the year. Classes generally begin in late September/early October.

With CNED, it is possible to re-register only in subjects that have not been validated in order to access monitoring (forums and activities), as well as in the “autonomy” formula (access to courses but not to support/activities).
To find out about AUF repeat year procedures, please contact the e-learning department: moma-elearning@umontpellier.fr.
Registration at the university is mandatory.

To access:

  • For L3, a two-year college degree is required (BAC+2)
  • For M1, you need a bachelor’s degree (BAC+3)
  • For the M2, a four-year degree is required (BAC+4)

If you do not meet these requirements, you can apply for Validation of Prior Learning and Professional Experience (VAPP) through the university’s continuing education department.

The VAPP exempts you from the prerequisites (of the degree). The VAE (validation of acquired experience) validates all or part of the degree you are aiming for.

After obtaining your bachelor’s degree (L3), you must apply via the Mon Master website in order to participate in the selection committee for admission to the master’s program. Upon completion of the master’s program in management, you will be admitted directly to the second year without selection.

Scholarship recipients can continue to receive their scholarships, university registration fees are covered for scholarship recipients, payment facilities are also offered by the CNED, and certain funding organizations may also cover the cost of studies; this should be discussed directly with them.

Students registered through the AUF can apply for a study grant. All information is available on the AUF website.

Year 1 to M1: students must attend two one-week exam sessions per year in Montpellier or at an AUF center.
M2: ongoing continuous assessment; only students who need re-take exams must attend one week in june.

The exam schedule and dates are posted in November on the platform.

For transcripts and certificates of achievement:

You can edit your transcripts and certificates of achievement from the ENT as soon as the exam board has validated the exam results.

Please click on the following link to send or collect diplomas.

The issuance of diplomas requires a procedure (validation, verification, signatures) that takes several months.

Reminder: there is no M1 degree. In the fourth year, an intermediate Master’s degree may be awarded (“Maîtrise”).

You can choose:

  • Not taking all your exams during session 1 and taking all your exams during session 2 (semesters 1 and 2). However, this reduces your chances of passing.
  • To take only a few subjects during semesters 1 and 2 and take the remaining exams during session 2.

No. Once you have obtained a passing grade (a UE), it is validated once and for all. You will only retake the subjects you did not pass.

Same thing for a semester: if a semester is validated (average of 10 or above), it remains valid, even if a UE is not validated.

Most students communicate about this on the platform’s forums, to arrange carpooling or share a hotel room. This is a good way to reduce travel costs in Montpellier.

Internship / Continuing Education

Yes, to do so, please contact the continuing education department at the University of Montpellier: sfc@umontpellier.fr to obtain a quote for your tuition fees.

Go to the “Distance learning at Montpellier Management” page to view the rates.

Internships are mandatory from L2 to M2. Internships cannot begin before December 1st for all programs.

Internship duration: Minimum 308 hours (2 months) and maximum 924 hours (6 months)

  • L1 to M1: minimum 308h
  • M2 : 616h minimum

308h no remuneration beyond this point, so from the 309th hour onwards, the company must pay the intern. Please note that the internship period cannot extend beyond August 31st.

Calculation of the internship duration:

  • 1 day of internship = 7 hours; 1 month of internship = 22 days, therefore 1 month of internship = 154 hours
  • 2 months of internship = 44 days X 7 hours = 308 hours

The duration of the internship is calculated based on the intern’s actual presence in the company and not on calendar dates (from date to date).

The submission of an internship report for Bachelor’s degrees and a thesis for Master’s degrees (M1 and M2) is mandatory.

This submission cannot be applied until the intern has completed the minimum required duration of the internship (308 hours from L2 to M1 and 616 hours for M2) by the date set for the submission of the report or thesis in session 1 or session 2.

Examples: report submission date, thesis defense May 24th, the intern must have completed their 308 hours before May 24th for their thesis defense to be considered for session 1. If they have not completed their 308 hours before May 24th, the report and thesis defense will be considered for session 2.

The internship may continue beyond the deliberations. The defense of the M2 thesis is mandatory and may take place either by videoconference or in person in Montpellier.

No, the maximum duration is 6 months, or 924 hours.

Yes, if the total duration is equivalent to the mandatory duration and the internship is carried out within the same company. You cannot do one month of internship in one company and another month in another.

Yes, if your job is directly related to your training. This means that your company must be informed via a specific agreement that is different from an internship agreement.
