Exchange students: your studies

With a few exceptions (dual training study programs like our “Licences professionnelles” and some Master 1 programs and all of our Master 2 programs), exchange students study the same courses as degree students.

At Montpellier Management, the first semester runs from early September to late December/early January, while the second semester runs from early January to late April/early May.

For all semester dates (class periods, exam and make-up periods, holidays, etc.), please consult the academic calendar.

Classes for the 2025-2026 academic year will begin on Monday, September 8th 2025.

Please note that each program has its own academic calendar!

The pre-semester orientation for exchange students will take place on Friday, September 5th 2025.

Courses at Montpellier Management are offered in five areas of study:

  • Audit, Accounting, Control, Finance
  • Entrepreneurship and SMEs
  • Public Management
  • Management and Strategy
    Marketing & Sales

The programs of study taught in French can be viewed here.

Students can only enroll in our programs from L1 (first year of a bachelor’s degree) to M1 (first year of a master’s degree).

The list of courses taught in English can be found here.

For now, you must base your learning agreement on this list of courses.

In terms of ECTS credits, exchange students have three options:

  1. Take a full semester of courses like regular students for a maximum of 30 ECTS credits per semester;
  2. Take a limited number of courses for less than 30 ECTS credits per semester and be awarded the usual number of ECTS credits (between 1 and 5 ECTS credits depending on the courses chosen; the usual number of ECTS credits is available on the web pages of each of our study programs);
  3. Follow the “light formula” available only to exchange students, which consists of choosing 6 compulsory Montpellier Management courses from one (ideally!) or more study programs. In this case, each course will automatically be credited with 5 ECTS credits for a maximum of 30 ECTS credits per semester.

To avoid scheduling conflicts, we advise students to take courses in one or two different programs of study, whenever possible.

Exchange students can take language courses as part of their study contract if these courses are approved by their home university.

Business English courses are available in all our study programs, from L1 to M1.

Exchange students can also participate in French Foreign Language (FLE) courses.

These courses are organized by the Language Department of the University of Montpellier and can be credited with 2 to 5 ECTS credits depending on the requirements of the home university.

Upon arrival in Montpellier, exchange students must complete their administrative registration.

To do so, they must go to the International Relations Office (D201) with the following documents:

  • a copy of an identity document (ID)
  • an ID photo
  • a copy of medical insurance: European Health Insurance Card (CEAM) for Erasmus+ students OR international medical insurance for students outside Europe, covering the entire duration of the mobility period
  • a copy of the liability insurance covering the entire duration of the mobility period

Once your administrative registration has been finalized by the Montpellier Management Registration Office, we will issue you with a student card and a certificate of enrollment.

At Montpellier Management, courses can be assessed in three different ways:

  1. continuous assessment only
  2. continuous assessment and final exam
  3. final exam only

At the beginning of each course, ask the teacher to confirm the method of evaluation for their course.

Exams are mainly conducted in French, with the exception of certain courses and exams taught in English.

All exchange students must register for exams, regardless of the type of course assessment.

In France, students are graded on a scale of 0 to 20 out of 20 (20 being the highest possible grade). Students earn ECTS credits if they obtain a grade of 10/20 or higher.

The grading system is distributed as follows:

  • From 10 to 11.99 out of 20: fair
  • From 12 to 13.99 out of 20: fairly good
  • From 14 to 15.99 out of 20: good
  • From 16 to 17.99 out of 20: very good
  • From 18 to 20 out of 20: very good with congratulations

The conversion of your grades into the local grading system and the validation of your results obtained at Montpellier Management are the responsibility of your home university.

The International Relations Office at Montpellier Management will send the official transcript by email to students, and upon request to the coordinator at the home university, approximately one month after the end of the official exam period.

Certificates for French Foreign Language (FLE) courses will be issued by the Language Department and delivered separately.
