With a few exceptions (dual training study programs like our “Licences professionnelles” and some Master 1 programs and all of our Master 2 programs), exchange students study the same courses as degree students.
- Semester structure

- Semester 1: beginning of September to end of December/beginning of January;
- Semester 2: beginning of January to end of April/beginning of May.
- Academic calendar:
- Each study programme has a specific academic calendar;
- The exact dates (courses, examinations, resit exams, holidays, public holidays, etc.) sare indicated in the academic calendar*.
* the academic calendar for the 2026/2027academic year will be available from September.
- Academic year 2026-2027:
- Beginning of classes: Monday, September 7, 2026;
- Welcome Day for exchange students: Friday, September 4, 2026.

Course catalogue:
- Programmes taught in French: list available online;
- Courses taught in English: list available online;
- The learning agreement must be base on the current list of courses.
Academic levels available to exchange students:
- From L1 (1st year of Bachelor) to M1 (1st year of Master) only.
ECTS credit options for exchange students:
- Take a full semester like regular students: up to 30 ECTS per semester;
- Take a limited number of courses: less than 30 ECTS (between 1 and 5 ECTS per course);
- Choose the light formula (available exclusively to exchange students at Montpellier Management):
- 6 compulsory courses offered by Montpellier Management ;
- Each course is worth 5 ECTS, for a maximum of 30 ECTS per semester.
Timetable advice:
- It is recommended to choose courses from one or two different programmes at most in order to avoid timetable conflicts.
Language courses and learning agreement:
- Exchange students may take language courses (English and/or French) provided that these courses are approved by their home university;
- These courses may be included in the learning agreement.
Business English:
- Business English courses are available across all study programmes;
- Available from L1 to M1.
French as a Foreign Language (FLE):
- Exchange students may take French as a Foreign Language (FLE) courses;
- Organised by the Department of Languages of the University of Montpellier;
- Credits awarded: 2 to 5 ECTS, depending on the requirements of the home university.
Enrolment process:
- Mandatory upon arrival in Montpellier for exchange students;
- To be completed with the International Relations Office (room D201).
Documents to be provided:
- Copy of ID document;
- ID photo;
- Copy of medical insurance:
- European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) for Erasmus+ students;
- International medical insurance for non-European students, covering the entire duration of the mobility period;
- Copy of civil liability insurance covering the entire duration of the mobility period.
After the validation of the registration:
- Delivery of the student card;
- Delivery of a certificate of enrolment.
Course assessment methods:

- Continuous assessment only;
- Continuous assessment + final examination;
- Final examination only.
Important information:

- The assessment method should be specified by the lecturer at the beginning of each course;
- Examinations are mainly held in French, except for certain courses and examinations conducted in English.
Registration requirement:

- All exchange students are required to register for examinations, regardless of the course assessment method. Registration is handled by the International Relations Office at the beginning of each semester.
Grading system in France:
-
- Grades are awarded on a scale from 0 to 20 (20 being the highest possible grade);
- ECTS credits are awarded from a grade of 10/20 onwards.
Grading scale:

- 10 to 11,99: Pass
- 12 to 13,99: Fairly good
- 14 to 15,99: Good
- 16 to 17,99: Very good
- 18 à 20: Very good with honours
Recognition of academic results:

- The conversion of grades and the academic recognition of results are the responsability of the home university.
Transcript of records:
-
- Sent by email by the International Relations Office approximately one month after the official end of the examination period;
- Sent to the home university coordinator upon request.
French as a Foreign Language (FLE) courses:
-
- Certificates are issued by the Department of Languages of the University of Montpellier;
- Issued separetely from the Montpellier Management transcript of records.
